David Riggs, Marshal the Thug… where’s the lie?

Maybe my pointing out that his appeal to Diarmaid MacCulloch for disagreeing with the majority of academia - that protestantism drove  moral relativism in the Western world and brew the motive for voracious capitalism -actually proved Jesse’s own words wrong.

So Jesse shut up. Silence.

Jesse thought that there was no serious ground to this idea at all. But in fact it is the standard idea for over a century and is precisely the mountain that Professor MacCulloch is debating.

So Jesse got a huge lesson in current historiography of Protestantism. But he can’t acknowledge that?

Weak character.

Or, is more embarrassed instead of resentful and unable to admit when he’s wrong (weak faith) because Professor MacCulloch turns out not to be a guy Jesse approved of?

MacCulloch is a a significant scholar of Protestantism but he’s not a Christian believer and he believes in gay rights. Is that why Jesse shut up?

We’ll never know. Jesse is too immature to suffer being wrong out in the open. He hides his shame. Christ could help with that but I don’t think he’s ever heard Christ’s voice in his life. If he had, he’d have grown to write about bigger, life-giving things.

    btw, Jesse’s experiment reading living scholars scared him so much, he’s retreated all the way back to dead Victorian scholarship! For days and a handful of comments, he’s hermitted himself away in a 170 year old book that anxiously tries to prove Solomon wrote most of the Proverbs. As if it matters?
