As of early March 2026, the US has reported 1,281 measles cases, heavily driven by 12 major outbreaks, nearly matching the 2,258 total infections from the entire previous year. This rapid surge, largely affecting unvaccinated children and young adults, has put the nation at risk of losing its elimination status.
