Glenn - the fake Scotsman - tries to claim that the Catholic Church worships Mary. The Catechism - the teaching - of the Catholic Church destroys his claim

Glenn has found a text from 1745 by Alphonsus Liguori that is his prayer of devotion to Mary. But Glenn dishonestly paints the whole Catholic Church - particularly the present day Catholic Church - as making doctrine with the words of Liguori’s confession of devotedly worshipping Mary.

And Glenn does this all while he almost daily disowns others of this radical protestant arm of an ideological commitment that he substitutes for faith.

More of Liguori after, but first, lets' just note what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says about Mary vis a vis the Trinity:

"All generations will call me blessed": "The Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship." The Church rightly honors "the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of 'Mother of God,' to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs … . This very special devotion … differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration."

"Mary's function as mother of men in no way obscures or diminishes this unique mediation of Christ, but rather shows its power. But the Blessed Virgin's salutary influence on men … flows forth from the superabundance of the merits of Christ, rests on his mediation, depends entirely on it, and draws all its power from it." "No creature could ever be counted along with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer; but just as the priesthood of Christ is shared in various ways both by his ministers and the faithful, and as the one goodness of God is radiated in different ways among his creatures, so also the unique mediation of the Redeemer does not exclude but rather gives rise to a manifold cooperation which is but a sharing in this one source."

And what did the Vatican say just last November on titles for Mary?

"In this positive framework, the doctrinal text analyses a number of Marian titles, encouraging the adoption of some of those appellations and warning against the use of others. Titles such as “Mother of Believers,” “Spiritual Mother,” “Mother of the Faithful” are noticed with approval in the Note. Conversely, the title of “Co-redemptrix” is deemed inappropriate and problematic. The title of “Mediatrix” is considered unacceptable when it takes on a meaning that excludes Jesus Christ; however, it can used appropriately so long as it expresses an inclusive and participatory mediation that glorifies the power of Christ. The titles “Mother of Grace” and “Mediatrix of All Graces” are considered acceptable when used in a very precise sense, but the document also warns of particularly broad explanations of the meaning of the terms.

Essentially, the Note reaffirms Catholic doctrine, which has always emphasized that everything in Mary is directed towards the centrality of Christ and His salvific work. For this reason, even if some Marian titles admit of an orthodox interpretation through correct exegesis, Mater populi fidelis says it is preferable to avoid them."

Glenn’s ideology - a corruption of Christian faith - requires him to lie about those he can’t stand or even just disagrees with. His default character of hate strikes out and sometimes hits other liars who are just like him but with different agendas. In this case, his unchristian behavior strikes a saint of the church.

This behavior of Glenn’s, this deeply ingrained sectarian and segregationist hate are the immoral marks of life in radical protestant ideology. America has been feverishly infected by it from the first landing of English plantation settlers and religious extremists.

Regarding Alphonsus Liguori, (1696-1787), he was a baroque Italian Catholic bishop and saint, as well as a spiritual writer, composer, musician, artist, poet, lawyer, scholastic philosopher, and theologian. He was first educated as a civil and a church lawyer. He was a successful lawyer but at the age of 27 became disenchanted with the profession.

Against his father's early opinion, he became a priest ministering the homeless and the youth of Naples. He was a popular preacher because he could be understood. When he was 36 he founded the religious order, Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, in order to gather a brotherhood of priests to minister to the poor in the burgeoning cities and those suffering in the countryside. This brotherhood is popularly called the Redemptorists.

By the 1800s this dedicated mission to the poor extended to Austria, Hungary, Portugal, Germany, and Belgium. Then Spain, Scotland, England, Columbia, Ecuador, Chile, and Suriname. In the 20th century, Brasil, Canada, the Philippines, Singapore, the Congo, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Angola, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, India, Vietnam, Ireland.

ALL OF THEM SERVING THE POOR, THE MARGINALIZED, THE OUTCAST IN THE NAME OF CHRIST.

In the United States, German congregations in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, and Chicago and Eastern cities - all centers of industrial labor - became filled with Redemptorist priests - because Germans weren't White people yet and so were shut out of better economic opportunities.

In the 20th century, this ministry to Europeans - who weren't White in the 19th century but became White after the wars - turned to the minister to African Americans who flooded the lower ranks of labor of Northern cities because they were fleeing homegrown terrorism in the American South.

John Neumann, immigrated in 1836 to the US from Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic) as an ethnic German and was ordained a Redemptorist priest. In Philadelphia, he stablished the first Catholic diocesan school system in the US. Diocesan schools served black and brown and Asian children when the public system ostracized them for the majority of the 20th century.

My father-in-law, born in 1943 to a family fleeing North Carolina racial terrorism to Philadelphia, was an alter boy serving a parish run by Belgian Redemptorist priests. He went to Catholic schools in Philly. Later her served in the army during the Vietnam war and the Air Force and Department of Defense for his entire career.

His faith was initiated and shaped by the devotion of those Redemptorist Fathers. Thank God for Alphonsus Liguori.

How many black and brown and Asian and European little boys and girls were loved out of poverty and oppression by Redemptorist priests around the world?

How many of any one by Glenn?

Which of them favor Christ? And which does Christ favor?
