Together We Are America - Thugs are Segregationists
Somehow the NFL, working to beatify its reputation (as every capitalist corporation must to expand its revenue in order to survive), has hosted two artists who have told us the two stories we need so much to hear. In reverse order.
Kendrick Lamar named the evils against which we all should bind ourselves together in order to fight for justice, equity, and care.
Bad Bunny told us who we are.
Yes! Almost all of us in all of the Americas - aside from the purely indigenous - are made up of diverse DNA and the legacies of a mix of cultures. Almost all us are here because our ancestors were desperate, debt driven, criminal or in trouble, marginalized, or downright enslaved.
Our origins gave birth to modernity and globalism. As well as the brutality that shapes modernity and its attendant global ills.
We, on these western continents and islands, are so much more alike, from Edmonton to Tierrra del Fuego, than any other super or even small region on earth.
We are children of all the other continents, almost all of us speaking one of four colonizing Western European languages.
We are bound to the same starting gun of dispossession and given life in the same sorts of migration stories.
We should recognize that we are, in large and important terms, one people.
Those who deny our existence as such, are insurrectionists against truth, moral progress, and the social creation of beauty.
