The head of this government is both a rabid liar and a fool.
Following the Great Depression, the US government initially responded with the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930, which significantly increased tariffs on imported goods. This act, intended to protect American farmers and industries, ultimately worsened the depression by triggering retaliatory tariffs from other nations and drastically reducing global trade. Later, the US shifted towards trade liberalization through reciprocal trade agreements.
