You all cannot grow in knowledge of the Spirit and the Triune God because you fear to really believe. So you choose not to know. You “ask” the Bible to confirm your fears in order to justify your judgments. But you don’t ask god for knowledge because you don’t know how to love god.
Stan loves to limit love because it is dangerous to his world view as a White man. And love is dangerous! But the love for god that gives us the courage to ask for more knowledge from god… brings us the freedom of truth.
From this part of Isaiah 7…
“If you will not believe, you shall not continue.” And the Lord spoke again to Achaz, saying: Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God either unto the depth of hell, or unto the height above. And Achaz said: I will not ask, and I will not tempt the Lord. And he said: Hear ye therefore, O house of David: Is it a small thing for you to be grievous to men, that you are grievous to my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign”…
St Anselm drew the conclusion that has directed theologians ever since:
Neque enim quaero intelligere ut credam, sed credo it intelligam.
"I do not seek to understand in order that I may believe, but rather, I believe in order that I may understand.”
And in this, he had the previous example of St Augustine who established the truth that it is love which motivates the desire to know more and the human feeling of joy in knowing more. This is blessing that descends on humans who love god love knowing the world, god’s creation in which gif is ever present. This is the love that for Stan is “too dangerous to attempt.”
“Reason is the soul’s gaze. But since it does not follow that everyone who gazes sees, a right and perfect gaze, from which vision follows, is called virtue. For virtue is right or perfect reason. But even if the eyes are healthy, the gaze itself cannot turn toward the light unless three things are present: faith, by which it believes that what it gazes on will, when seen, make it happy; hope, by which it expects that it will see, if it has looked well; love, by which it desires to see and enjoy. And then the vision of God follows from this gaze which results in a blessed life.”
In Isaiah, btw, the sign given to Israel even though Israel didn’t love god enough to ask, was…
A virgin and her son.
