U.S. commanders across more than 30 military bases told troops the Iran war is part of “God’s plan” and linked it to “Armageddon.” A commander said Trump was “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon.” The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) says it has received over 110 similar complaints describing the war as “biblically-sanctioned” and a sign of the Christian “End Times.”

Focusing on divine retribution leads to an ego-satisfying and eventually unworkable image of God, which situates us inside of a very unsafe and dangerous universe. Both Jesus and Paul observed the human tendency toward retribution and spoke strongly about the limitations of the law.
